The outer disc, finished in gold plating, carries inscriptions in the Abkhaz language separated by dots: АҦСНЫ АҲӘЫНҬҚАРРА (The Republic of Abkhazia) in the upper arc, and АИААИРА (Victory) with the commemorative years 1993 and 2013 in the lower arc. Sosnaliev Sultan Aslanbekovich commanded Abkhazian forces during the 1992–1993 war against Georgia, a conflict in which Abkhazia — backed heavily by Russian volunteer fighters and North Caucasian militias — drove out Georgian government troops and established de facto independence. The National Bank of Abkhazia has issued commemorative coinage since the mid-2000s partly as a soft-power exercise: the republic is recognized by only a handful of UN member states, and these issues circulate almost exclusively as collector pieces rather than currency.
