The apsar exists nowhere in the conventional monetary system — Abkhazia's independence is recognized by Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Syria, and a handful of others, leaving the Bank of Abkhazia in the unusual position of issuing currency for a state most of the world officially treats as Georgian territory.
