| Obverse description | The obverse displays the coat of arms of Rwanda centrally within a circular inner border, depicting a shield flanked by a sorghum stalk to the left and a coffee branch to the right, with two crossed spears behind the shield and a knotted rope below. A sun with stylized rays appears above the shield, with a ribbon bearing the legend REPUBLIKA Y'U RWANDA arching over the top of the arms. The motto UBUMWE-UMURIMO-GUKUNDA IGIHUGU is inscribed on a scroll at the base of the arms. The surrounding field carries the legend BANKI NKURU Y'U RWANDA arching along the upper periphery, with the denomination AMAFARANGA 50 MIRONGO ITANU distributed along the lower portion of the coin. |

| Additional information |
Rwanda has no native meerkat population — the suricate is endemic to the arid regions of southern Africa, thousands of kilometers away. This coin belongs to a broader series issued under Rwanda's unusually permissive commemorative licensing arrangements, which have made the National Bank a favored vehicle for European bullion dealers seeking a sovereign issuer for wildlife-themed collector pieces. The actual commercial and design work originates well outside Kigali.
