Rwanda's National Bank has issued a long-running series of wildlife coins aimed squarely at the collector market, with giraffe-themed pieces appearing across multiple years and formats. The 2018 issue falls within a broader trend of African sovereign mints — and institutions issuing on their behalf — licensing designs to European minting houses, in Rwanda's case typically the Bavarian State Mint in Munich. The coin carries legal tender status in Rwanda but was never intended for circulation.
