| Opmerkingen |
Ålesund Sentrumsforening was a business district association in the Norwegian coastal town of Ålesund, and these notes functioned as a local scrip scheme — redeemable at participating retailers in the town centre rather than as legal tender. Such merchant association vouchers were not uncommon in Scandinavian towns during the late 1980s and early 1990s as a mechanism to keep consumer spending within defined commercial zones, competing against out-of-town retail development.
The series ran across at least three years, suggesting the scheme was commercially viable enough to warrant reissue. Ålesund itself is notable for its concentration of Jugendstil architecture, rebuilt after a catastrophic 1904 fire.
