| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field presents a highly detailed relief representation of the interior of a lava tube cave, depicting dramatic lava stalactites descending from the vaulted ceiling above rugged basaltic rock formations on the cave floor, rendered with exceptional sculptural depth against a mirrored proof field. The arc legend UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE curves prominently along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering. In the lower central field, a two-line inscription reads Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes, with the legend 2011·THE BANK OF KOREA·50000 WON arcing along the lower periphery. |

This piece belongs to a Bank of Korea commemorative series tied to UNESCO World Heritage designations, issued the same year South Korea was actively promoting its natural sites internationally. The Jeju volcanic landscape — including the Geomunoreum lava tube system — received UNESCO listing in 2007, making this a relatively prompt commemorative response by Korean standards.
KM#121 is one of several similar-format Korean silver issues from this period, and mintage figures were tightly controlled for the collector market rather than general circulation.
