Banque du Liban issued this commemorative polymer note to mark its fiftieth anniversary, making it one of the rare Lebanese issues conceived from the outset as a collector piece rather than a working circulation note. The shift to polymer substrate was deliberate — Lebanon had not previously issued polymer currency, and the anniversary provided a politically neutral occasion to trial the material without committing the entire note series to a format change.
The 50,000 Livre denomination placed it at the top of the circulating value range at the time of issue, which helped keep it out of everyday transactions.
