| 备注 |
Romania's hyperinflationary spiral of the early-to-mid 1990s forced the Banca Națională into an awkward position: issuing denominations that would have seemed absurd just a decade earlier. The 50,000 Lei note of 1996 was a direct product of that pressure — by the time it entered circulation, the leu had lost the overwhelming majority of its purchasing power since 1989, and this denomination was already insufficient for significant transactions.
The series would be superseded by the 2005 redenomination, which lopped four zeros off the currency entirely, rendering all pre-reform notes obsolete at a ratio of 10,000 old lei to one new leu.
