Laos has issued lunar new year commemoratives with some regularity, but the 2025 Snake issue arrives in a year when the country's economy remains heavily dollarized and the kip itself trades at roughly 21,000 to the US dollar — making the face value of 50,000 kip worth less than three dollars. The denomination is ceremonial fiction, as it is on virtually every modern silver commemorative from Southeast Asian issuers.
