The Lao kip has been subject to repeated redenomination pressures since its introduction in 1976, and high-face-value commemorative issues like this one reflect ongoing inflation dynamics rather than any spike in bullion demand. Laos adopted the twelve-year animal cycle into its official commemorative program largely to serve cross-border collector markets in Thailand, China, and Vietnam, where lunar zodiac issues move reliably.
