| Obverse description | Central field depicts a detailed frontal view of Pha That Luang (the Great Stupa of Vientiane), the national symbol of Laos, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished black field. The stupa's characteristic tapering spire rises prominently at center, flanked by subsidiary stupas and the surrounding temple wall with its ceremonial gateway. The legend 'BANK OF THE LAO PDR' arcs along the upper periphery in large Latin characters. The fineness mark 'Ag 925' appears vertically on the left field, the Moscow Mint monogram (ММД) is positioned to the right, and the denomination '50000 KIP' together with the date '• 2023 •' are inscribed along the lower periphery. |

The Lao PDR has issued lunar series coinage with some consistency, but the 2023 Dragon falls in a year carrying particular weight in Sino-Lao relations — the Belt and Road-funded Laos-China Railway opened in December 2021, reshaping the country's economic alignment more dramatically than any policy shift in recent decades. Collector pieces like this one increasingly target the Chinese diaspora market, where dragon-year issues command premium attention regardless of issuing nation.
