附加信息

Laos issued a series of lunar gold coins in the early 2000s targeting the collector export market rather than domestic circulation — the 50,000 Kip face value was nominal at best, bearing no meaningful relationship to the coin's actual gold content value or to wages in one of Southeast Asia's poorest economies at the time. The Bank of the Lao PDR partnered with outside minting facilities for these issues, as the country lacked domestic precious-metal striking capacity.

The 2002 Horse corresponds to the Year of the Horse in the Chinese sexagenary cycle, situating this squarely within a production run calculated for diaspora and Asian collector markets.
