Beschrijving voorzijde A three-quarter intaglio portrait vignette of Molière, rendered in period wig and cravat, occupies the central field against a theatrical stage interior with a tiered balcony of spectators framed by draped curtains. The legend BANQUE DE FRANCE runs across the upper centre, the denomination numeral 50000 appears in the upper right corner, and the value legend CINQUANTE MILLE FRANCS is lettered in large bold type along the lower margin. Three signature panels for LE CONTRÔLEUR GÉNÉRAL, LE CAISSIER GÉNÉRAL, and LE SECRÉTAIRE GÉNÉRAL are positioned in the right field, and a diagonal SPÉCIMEN perforation is applied across the face of the note.

Opmerkingen

The 50,000 Francs denomination was the highest face value note in regular French circulation during the late Fourth Republic — a figure that reflects how far inflation had eroded the franc since 1945. By the time this note was being issued, the political machinery that would end the Fourth Republic was already in motion; de Gaulle's return to power in 1958 and the subsequent redenomination of January 1960 rendered the entire old-franc series obsolete almost immediately, with 100 anciens francs converted to 1 nouveau franc.

Pick 136A distinguishes an earlier signature combination within the type. Notes from this series were withdrawn rapidly after redenomination and survivors in any grade are appreciably scarcer than the print runs would suggest.
