Obverse description A three-quarter intaglio portrait vignette of Molière, rendered in period wig and cravat, occupies the central field against a theatrical stage interior with a tiered balcony of spectators framed by draped curtains. The legend BANQUE DE FRANCE runs across the upper centre, the denomination numeral 50000 appears in the upper right corner, and the value legend CINQUANTE MILLE FRANCS is lettered in large bold type along the lower margin. Three signature panels for LE CONTRÔLEUR GÉNÉRAL, LE CAISSIER GÉNÉRAL, and LE SECRÉTAIRE GÉNÉRAL are positioned in the right field, and a diagonal SPÉCIMEN perforation is applied across the face of the note.
