| Beschrijving keerzijde | A boldly rendered Vietnamese dragon in high relief occupies the central field, depicted in dynamic, sinuous form against a background of radiating polychrome sunbeams in red and green, creating a striking colourised effect. The legend RỒNG VIỆT NAM arcs across the upper periphery, while the inscription YEAR OF THE DRAGON 2000 curves along the lower border. A rectangular cartouche in the lower central field bears the text 1/2 oz 999.9 FINE GOLD, confirming the coin's precious metal content. The overall design references traditional Vietnamese artistic conventions for dragon imagery. |

Vietnam's Year of the Dragon gold issues from 2000 were among the earliest lunar series pieces produced under the State Bank's expanded bullion program of the late 1990s, a program driven partly by domestic demand for gold savings instruments in a country where private gold hoarding had been a deeply ingrained hedge against currency instability since the wartime đồng collapses of the 1970s. The Dragon holds particular weight in Vietnamese cosmology — the năm Canh Thìn fell at the turn of the millennium, compounding local demand.
KM#56 was struck at .9999 fineness, finer than the more common .999 used by many regional mints for comparable issues at the time.
