Beschrijving keerzijde A boldly rendered Vietnamese dragon in high relief occupies the central field, depicted in dynamic, sinuous form against a background of radiating polychrome sunbeams in red and green, creating a striking colourised effect. The legend RỒNG VIỆT NAM arcs across the upper periphery, while the inscription YEAR OF THE DRAGON 2000 curves along the lower border. A rectangular cartouche in the lower central field bears the text 1/2 oz 999.9 FINE GOLD, confirming the coin's precious metal content. The overall design references traditional Vietnamese artistic conventions for dragon imagery.

Aanvullende informatie

Vietnam's Year of the Dragon gold issues from 2000 were among the earliest lunar series pieces produced under the State Bank's expanded bullion program of the late 1990s, a program driven partly by domestic demand for gold savings instruments in a country where private gold hoarding had been a deeply ingrained hedge against currency instability since the wartime đồng collapses of the 1970s. The Dragon holds particular weight in Vietnamese cosmology — the năm Canh Thìn fell at the turn of the millennium, compounding local demand.

KM#56 was struck at .9999 fineness, finer than the more common .999 used by many regional mints for comparable issues at the time.
