50 000 Customs Gold Units

The Customs Gold Unit was introduced in February 1948 as a specialist denomination tied to import/export valuations, distinct from the collapsing fabi currency then hemorrhaging value. The CGB's attempt to ring-fence customs revenue from hyperinflation was administratively rational but practically futile — by mid-1948 the Gold Yuan reform swept all prior instruments aside anyway, rendering the entire CGU series short-lived almost by design.

The Central Bank printed this series in-house rather than contracting overseas, a wartime habit born of necessity that continued into the late Republic period. At the 50,000 unit face value, this note arrived near the top of the CGU denomination range.
