The denomination "Fünfzig Millionen Mark" is inscribed in Fraktur script across the upper portion of the ornamental border, while "Landkreis Düsseldorf" appears in a bold Fraktur legend along the lower margin. The geometric interlace border closely mirrors that of the obverse.

Landkreis Düsseldorf — the rural administrative district surrounding the city, distinct from the city of Düsseldorf itself — issued this note during the hyperinflation peak of late 1923, when municipal and district authorities across Germany were legally empowered to print their own emergency currency, Notgeld, to cover payroll and basic transactions. By the time denominations had climbed to eight figures, the Reichsbank's own supply chain could not keep pace with demand, and local issuers like this one filled the gap through regional commercial printers.

Greven & Bechtold, based in Köln, handled considerable volume of Rhineland Notgeld output during this period.
