| Opmerkingen |
Annweiler am Trifels, a small town in the Palatinate, issued this 50-million Mark note at the absolute peak of the Weimar hyperinflation spiral — by late 1923, German municipal authorities were printing emergency currency (Notgeld) faster than the Reichsbank could supply denominations large enough to be useful. The Stadtgemeinde had no choice; without locally issued scrip, ordinary commerce ground to a halt within days.
At 50 million Mark, this note would have purchased roughly what a single Mark bought two years earlier. Printed locally in Annweiler itself, production quality was predictably limited by whatever press and paper stock the town could source on short notice.
