Comments

Hell Bank Notes are joss paper — ritual offerings burned at funerals and ancestral ceremonies so that the deceased receive wealth in the afterlife. The practice blends older Chinese folk religion with the more recent visual language of modern currency. The "Hell Bank" branding, complete with invented chop marks and authorizing signatures, emerged in the twentieth century as a stylized mass-produced format that displaced the older plain gold and silver paper squares in many urban communities.

Not legal tender anywhere, never intended to be. The astronomical face values are deliberate — inflation in the afterlife being apparently a serious concern.
