Bank Polski's wartime exile series was prepared in anticipation of liberation — printed in New Malden by Bradbury Wilkinson before Poland could reclaim its own territory. The notes were never issued into circulation. They were held in London by the Polish Government in Exile as reserve currency intended for deployment the moment German occupation ended, a moment that, for this government, effectively never came.
The USSR's imposition of the Lublin Committee in 1945 rendered the London administration politically irrelevant, and these notes along with it. Unissued stock was eventually dispersed — which is why P#81 survives in quantities that don't match its theoretical rarity.
