Poland's 1927 coinage program was conducted under the newly stabilized złoty, introduced in 1924 to replace the devastated German-era mark. Trial strikes like this piece — smooth-edged and lacking a mintmark — were produced at the Warsaw Mint during the design finalization process for the Nike series. The absence of a mintmark and smooth edge distinguish it from the issued coinage, which carried an edge inscription.
KM#Pn74 is among several documented pattern and trial variants from this period, reflecting the mint's methodical approval process before committing to full production dies.
