Issued as part of NBP's long-running football club collector series, this coin honors Legia Warszawa — Poland's most decorated club and the only Polish side to reach the European Cup final, losing to Real Madrid in 1970 after eliminating Cardiff City and Górnik Zabrze in the earlier rounds. Legia's complicated history includes a brief forced merger with rival Gwardia Warszawa in the early 1950s under pressure from the security apparatus, a period the club's official histories have treated with varying degrees of candor over the decades.
