The 1948 Polish zloty series was issued as the communist-aligned government worked to consolidate control over the monetary system following the 1944–1945 currency reforms that had already wiped out wartime occupation money. This particular denomination was printed domestically — unusual for a newly stabilized currency, as many postwar Eastern Bloc states initially relied on Soviet-controlled facilities or Western security printers while rebuilding local capacity.
