This note belongs to the PKWN series — named for the Polski Komitet Wyzwolenia Narodowego, the Soviet-backed provisional authority established in Lublin in July 1944 as the Red Army pushed westward through occupied Poland. The series was prepared before liberation was complete, intended to replace both Nazi occupation currency and the London government-in-exile's own notes simultaneously, a deliberate act of monetary politics as much as economic necessity.
Printed in the USSR, not Poland.
