| Obverse description | Cast bronze cash coin centred on a square perforation, with a raised inner square rim flanking the hole on the left and right sides but notably absent along the top edge — a defining characteristic of this Western Han variety. The two-character legend 五銖 (Wu Zhu) is disposed to either side of the central square hole, reading right to left, rendered in clerical-style Chinese script in shallow relief. The character 五 (five) appears to the right of the hole and 銖 (zhu) to the left, both cast with moderate definition. The outer rim is present, enclosing a flat, unadorned field. The coin displays an olive-brown patina with areas of green cuprite oxidation consistent with long burial. |
