Obverse description Cast bronze cash coin with a central square perforation, the annular field bearing two seal script (Zhuan shu) characters reading 五朱 (Wu Zhu, '5 Zhu'), positioned to the right and left of the square hole respectively. The legends are rendered in archaic seal script style characteristic of the Eastern Jin period. The flan is plain without an inner or outer rim ridge, and the coin shows typical casting irregularities along the outer edge consistent with primitive clay-mould casting techniques of the period. The surfaces display heavy patination consistent with great age.
