Two abbreviated Chinese characters are disposed horizontally flanking the central square perforation: the numeral 五 (wu, five) to the left and an abbreviated form of 朱 (zhu) to the right, both rendered in clerical-style script of notably reduced and simplified stroke structure — a diagnostic feature of this Cao Wei issue. The obverse field is otherwise plain, with no rim cord or inner rim decoration, and the broad flat annular surface shows the typical rough finish characteristic of third-century cast bronzes. |
