| Reverse description | Saint Petronius, patron and protector of Bologna, seated in three-quarter view upon a cloud, vested in episcopal robes and mitre, his right hand raised in blessing. Below the saint, two heraldic shields are displayed side by side: the arms of Cardinal Giovanni Archetti as Papal Legate and the arms of the city of Bologna. The denomination ZECCH·5· appears in the lower field beneath the shields, with the date 1787 incorporated into the reverse legend. The composition is typical of the elaborate figural style employed on pontifical gold coinage of the late eighteenth century. |
