Beschrijving voorzijde A detailed high-relief depiction of the Great Wall of China dominates the field, featuring a prominent watchtower at center with the wall's battlemented ramparts extending to the left and right across rugged mountainous terrain. Lush vegetation is rendered in fine detail along the wall's base, and a solitary figure appears at lower right on the stairway. The Chinese legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) curves along the upper periphery in Chinese characters, and the date 1993 appears in the lower exergue.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a two-register composition celebrating the Chinese invention of the umbrella. In the upper register, a frieze-like relief depicts six elegantly robed figures carrying open parasols, with a traditional pavilion visible at upper right. In the lower register, two craftsmen are shown in the act of manufacturing umbrellas: one seated artisan assembles a large open paper umbrella in the foreground, while a standing figure examines the framework. Wicker baskets and tools are scattered in the field. The Chinese inscription 伞一始于公元四世纪 (The umbrella — originating in the 4th century AD) appears at center left, and the denomination 5 元 is inscribed at lower right.

Aanvullende informatie

China's silver panda bullion series shifted to a .999 fineness standard in 1989, making the .900 silver issues of the early 1990s a transitional anomaly. The 1993 5 Yuan pieces were struck at the Shanghai and Shenyang mints, and the two facilities produced subtly different strikes that specialists distinguish by the texture of the bamboo detailing — a source of ongoing attribution debate among variety collectors.
