Obverse description The national emblem of the People's Republic of China occupies the central field, depicting Tiananmen Gate surmounted by five stars and encircled by a wreath of grain stalks bound at the base by a cogwheel. Flanking the emblem in the lower field are reliefs of traditional Peking Opera musical instruments: a stringed instrument group with a pipa and erhu to the left, and a drum with cymbals to the right, evoking the theatrical art form celebrated by the series. The circular legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs along the upper periphery in Chinese characters, with the date 2024 inscribed at the base of the field.

Reverse description The reverse features two depictions of a dan (female) role character from Peking Opera rendered in contrasting artistic styles. To the right, a finely detailed polychrome colored portrait shows a performer in full stage makeup — featuring characteristic pink facial coloring, bold black eye lines, and crimson lips — wearing an elaborate ornate phoenix crown (fengguan) adorned with turquoise and ruby-red jewels and cascading bead tassels, with a richly embroidered red and blue collar. To the left, a raised sculptural relief in the brass ground tone presents a second stylized female figure in traditional costume and headdress. The legend 中国京剧艺术 (Chinese Peking Opera Art) arcs along the upper border, and the denomination 5元 appears prominently in the lower field.
