| 裏面の説明 | A three-quarter-length portrait of Li Dazhao (李大釗), co-founder of the Chinese Communist Party and pioneering Marxist intellectual, is shown facing slightly right, dressed in a traditional Chinese jacket and holding a book, rendered in sculpted relief against a two-toned field. To the left, a bas-relief scene depicting a crowd before Tiananmen Gate evokes the political upheaval of the May Fourth Movement era, accompanied by decorative plum blossom sprigs in the upper left. The Chinese characters 李大釗 appear in the upper left field alongside the life dates 1889–1927 inscribed in Arabic numerals along the upper rim. The denomination 5元 is inscribed in bold relief to the right of the portrait. |

Li Dazhao was one of the two founders of the Chinese Communist Party — alongside Chen Duxiu — and introduced Marxism to China through his editorial work at Peking University's library in the late 1910s. He was strangled by warlord Zhang Zuolin's forces in 1927 after being seized from the Soviet legation in Beijing, a violation of diplomatic sanctuary that caused an international incident. This coin was issued as part of the PBC's ongoing commemorative series honoring figures deemed central to the revolutionary tradition, a program that accelerated through the 1990s.
