The Kwangtung Provincial Bank operated as a regional institution under Guangdong provincial authority during a period when the Nationalist central government in Nanjing was still consolidating financial control over semi-autonomous southern provinces. The 1936 date places this note in the final years before the Japanese invasion disrupted both the provincial banking structure and Chung Hwa's Shanghai printing operations entirely.
Chung Hwa Book Co. was one of the major commercial printers handling both securities and currency in Republican China, and their Shanghai facilities produced work of consistently high technical quality for the period.
