The Farmers Bank of China was established in 1933 to channel agricultural credit into rural communities, but by 1941 it had become thoroughly absorbed into Nationalist wartime finance. Notes of this period circulated alongside issues from three other government banks — the Central Bank, Bank of China, and Bank of Communications — under a unified currency framework that increasingly strained under Japanese military pressure and inflation.
De La Rue printed this series from London despite the war in Europe, though the supply chain for delivering finished notes to Chongqing was hardly straightforward. The watermark remains the primary security feature — by this stage in the war, sophisticated counterfeit suppression was a genuine operational concern for the Nationalist government.
