| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse, also printed entirely in red, carries a central oval vignette of the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum (Zhongshan Ling) in Nanking, rendered in fine line engraving and showing the grand ceremonial approach with its long stairway and tree-lined avenue receding toward the memorial hall. Large stylised numeral 5 guilloche panels occupy each lateral field, and the bank title in English runs along the top margin. The denomination tablet FIVE YUAN and the date 1940 appear in cartouches below the central vignette, with the facsimile signatures of the Governor and Vice-Governor printed at lower right and lower left respectively. |

The Central Reserve Bank of China was a creation of the Japanese-sponsored Wang Jingwei regime, established in Nanjing in early 1941 — which makes a 1940 date on this note an artifact of pre-opening authorization rather than actual issuance. The bank backdated its inaugural series to project institutional legitimacy it had not yet earned.
F.H. Chow (Zhou Fohai) was one of Wang Jingwei's closest collaborators and simultaneously ran covert negotiations with Chongqing. He was later sentenced to death as a traitor, commuted to life imprisonment, and died in custody in 1948.
