| 裏面の説明 | An acrobatic performer is depicted in dynamic mid-motion, arched backwards atop a low table, simultaneously spinning multiple plates on long sticks held aloft in both hands and feet. Additional acrobatic figures appear in the upper left field in smaller relief, suggesting sequential movement. The Chinese inscription 古代杂技 始于公元前206年 (Ancient acrobatics, originating from 206 BC) appears in two lines to the left of center. The denomination 5元 is inscribed in Chinese characters at the right field. |

Part of a long-running Chinese silver commemorative series celebrating traditional performing arts, the Acrobatics issues of the 1990s were produced by the China Mint for collector export as much as domestic sale — hard currency generation was an explicit function of the commemorative program throughout this period. Mintages were tightly controlled and distributed primarily through overseas dealers and state-run philatelic and numismatic agencies.
The .900 fineness is atypical for Chinese commemoratives of this era, which more commonly used .999 silver. Worth noting for attribution purposes.
