| Opmerkingen |
The Bank of Taiwan's 1949 small-denomination notes were issued under extreme monetary pressure — the New Taiwan Dollar had just been introduced in June of that year at a conversion rate of 40,000 old Taiwan Dollars to one new unit, a direct consequence of hyperinflation that had followed the Nationalist government's retreat from the mainland. This 5 Yuan note belongs to that stabilization series, printed domestically at the First Printing Factory rather than abroad, which was a deliberate choice given the political urgency of establishing independent monetary infrastructure on the island.
The compact dimensions reflect paper conservation priorities of the period, not a design preference.
