| Reverse description | Printed in red-orange on a pale cream ground, the reverse is dominated by two large circular guilloche rosettes each enclosing the numeral '5' and '5' in mirror form, linked by an intricate lathe-work underprint. The legend 'NIPPON GINKO' appears in large roman lettering across the top, with the promise clause 'Promises to Pay the Bearer on Demand' immediately below and 'Five Yen IN GOLD.' centred in bold script.
