Reverse description Executed in deep mauve-brown tones, the reverse is dominated by two large lobed guilloche medallions at left and right, each bearing a kanji denomination character — 圓 and 五 respectively — set within intricate lathe-work underprint. The English denomination "5 YEN" appears at lower centre, flanked by two red circular official seals. The Bank of Japan title in kanji runs across the upper portion, with a small circular device at top centre.
