The 1975 Vietnamese xu denominations are inseparable from the immediate post-reunification monetary transition. Following the fall of Saigon in April 1975, the provisional revolutionary government needed instruments of exchange for the South before a unified national currency could be established — these small xu notes filled that gap, circulating in southern Vietnam under the new administration while the longer process of monetary consolidation was underway.
Pick 76 is among the lowest-denomination notes of the series, which partly explains its scarcity in collectible condition: small change notes in wartime-adjacent economies suffer hard use and disposal.
