| Additional information |
The British Indian Ocean Territory has no permanent civilian population — the Chagossians were forcibly removed between 1968 and 1973 to make way for the U.S. military base at Diego Garcia. Any coinage issued in BIOT's name is therefore purely a collector construct with no circulation purpose, produced under license and bearing no relationship to any economic activity on the islands.
A copper pattern from 2013 in a denomination called "Xeros Ceros" has no traceable precedent in any standard monetary framework, which places it firmly in the category of fantasy issues sold to the numismatic market rather than authorized coinage with fiscal standing.
