Obverse description The State Emblem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the central field, depicting the Paektu Mountain under a radiant sun, framed by sheaves of rice tied with a ribbon inscribed with the state name in Hangul script, and a hydroelectric dam in the foreground. The Hangul legend 조선민주주의인민공화국 (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) arcs along the upper periphery. The fineness mark '999' appears to the lower left of the arms and the weight '15g' to the lower right. The denomination '5 WON' is inscribed in Latin characters along the lower rim, flanked by small decorative sprigs.
