Obverse description The national coat of arms of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the central field, depicting Mount Paektu framed by a hydroelectric dam below and radiating sunbeams above, the whole encircled by sheaves of rice tied with a ribbon bearing the state name in Hangul script. The arms are flanked at lower left and right by decorative laurel sprigs. The circular legend in Hangul reading '조선민주주의인민공화국' arcs around the upper periphery. The fineness '999' and weight '15g' appear in the field to the left and right of the arms respectively, while the denomination '5 WON' is inscribed along the lower rim.
