Obverse description Central field features a finely detailed Korean imperial dragon rendered in high relief, depicted in a coiling posture with claws extended and head facing left, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. Surrounding the dragon, Chinese and Korean characters form the legend reading 大朝鮮 開國四百九十五年 (Great Joseon, Year 495 of the National Foundation), arranged around the upper periphery. The Korean denomination 오원 appears to the right and the Latin denomination 5 WON is inscribed prominently at the base of the coin between two floral ornaments. The entire design is bounded by an outer beaded border, consistent with the milled pattern coinage style of the late Joseon period.
