| Aanvullende informatie |
Peithesa was a minor Oscan-speaking community in Lucania whose independent bronze coinage was struck during the period when Greek colonial influence and indigenous Italic culture were in active, often violent negotiation across southern Italy. The issues are rare enough that die studies remain incomplete, and the precise civic identity of the issuing authority — whether a town, a magistrate, or a league — is still debated among specialists in Italic numismatics.
The Oscan legend distinguishing this type is the key diagnostic feature separating it from superficially similar Lucanian bronzes of the period.
