| 表面の説明 | The denomination numeral '5' is prominently displayed in large raised figures at the center of the field, accompanied by the denomination legend 'TOLARJEV' to its right. The date '1997' appears in the upper portion of the field along the inner rim, while the issuer legend 'REPUBLIKA SLOVENIJA' curves along the lower periphery. The design is restrained and typographic, with no figurative motif, set against a plain, unadorned field. |

Žiga Zois (1747–1819) was a Carniolan baron and mineralogist whose Ljubljana salon functioned as the organizing center of Slovenian Enlightenment thought — Vodnik, Kopitar, and Linhart all moved within his orbit. Slovenia's decision to populate its pre-euro coinage with such figures was a deliberate act of cultural self-definition for a state that had existed independently for less than a decade when this coin was struck.
