5 Tiyin

The tiyin denominations of 1994 were among the first coins issued by Uzbekistan following independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, replacing the Soviet ruble during a period of acute monetary instability across the former republics. The som and its subdivisions were introduced in July 1994, giving Uzbekistan its first nationally issued coinage. Inflation rendered the lowest tiyin values nearly worthless within years of issue, and most saw negligible circulation outside of the initial rollout.
