| Obverse description | Central square perforation surrounded by four large Chữ Nôm characters arranged in cruciform fashion within the field. Reading clockwise from the top: 紹 (Thiệu) above, 通 (Thông) to the right, 治 (Trị) below, and 寶 (Bảo) to the left, together forming the reign title legend 紹治通寶 (Thiệu Trị Thông Bảo). The characters are boldly cast in high relief against a smooth, flat field, enclosed within a plain raised rim typical of Vietnamese Nguyễn dynasty coinage. |
