| 裏面の説明 | Central field displays a large numeral '5' set within a bold octagonal geometric frame composed of interlaced angular patterns inspired by traditional Kazakh ornamental motifs. The denomination legend ТЕҢГЕ is inscribed diagonally below the numeral, while the date 1993 appears to the lower left within the frame. The mint mark ҚҰБ (National Bank of Kazakhstan) is inscribed in small characters above and to the right of the numeral. The outer border of the coin is decorated with a continuous ring of small raised beads. |

Kazakhstan's first national coinage series, issued in 1993, accompanied the introduction of the tenge itself — a currency launched on November 15 of that year to replace the Soviet ruble after the USSR's dissolution. The transition was abrupt; citizens had three days to exchange rubles at a fixed rate before the old currency was rendered invalid.
The entire 1993 series was struck at the Kazakhmys facilities and at foreign mints under contract, as Kazakhstan had no established mint of its own at independence.
