Obverse description The national coat of arms of Samoa occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing a palm tree over wavy lines in the upper half and five stars of the Southern Cross constellation in the lower half, all set against a globe and encircled by olive branches. A Christian cross surmounts the shield above. The national motto legend FA`AVAE I LE ATUA SAMOA is inscribed on a scroll at the base of the arms. The country name SAMOA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination $5 appears in the lower field below the arms.
