Obverse description At centre, the national coat of arms of Samoa depicted on a globe, featuring a quartered shield with the Southern Cross constellation of five stars in the lower half and a traditional Samoan pattern in the upper half, surmounted by a Latin cross, and flanked by two olive branches. A scroll banner at the base bears the national motto in Latin script. The country name SAMOA appears as the upper legend, and the denomination $5 is inscribed in the lower field.

Reverse description A laureate draped bust of Louis XIII, King of France, is portrayed in right-facing profile at centre, rendered in the classical Baroque style evoking the original Louis d'or coinage. The upper legend reads CLASSIC GOLD LOUIS D'OR in two arcing segments. To the right of the effigy, the weight and fineness are inscribed in three lines as 1/2 G / .9999 / FINEST GOLD, with the year of issue 2014 appearing below in the lower right field.
